The Scientific View is to Believe in a Creatior God

I really do appreciate this scientist’s honesty. The quote is by the late Dr. George Wald, a professor of biology at Harvard University who won the Nobel Prize in 1967 in physiology.

“When it comes to the origin of life we have only two possibilities as to how life arose. One is spontaneous generation arising to evolution.  The other is a supernatural creative act of God.  There is no third possibility. . . . Spontaneous generation was scientifically disproved 100 years ago by Louis Pasteur, Spellanzani, Reddy, and others.  That leads us scientifically to only one possible conclusion—that life arose as a supernatural creative act of God . . .  I will not accept that philosophically because I do not want to believe in God.  Therefore I choose to believe in that which I know is scientifically impossible, spontaneous generation arising to evolution.”

The key issue here is that Dr Wald’s objection to a creator God is based on his philosophical, and not scientific, view. In fact he states that the science of his day would lead you to conclude that there was a creator God!

John’s Gospel states that the all of creation, this earth and universe, was made through the Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:3). The apostle Paul states that the divine attributes are clearly made known through the created world around us:

“For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made.” Romans 1:20

So why don’t men and woman (especially scientists) recognise the existence of God? The problem is with us spiritually, not rationally. In the Lord Jesus’ own words:

“And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.” John 3:19

I heard the above quote from Dr Wald while listening to Pastor Mark Driscoll. The full sermon can be found here: http://marshill.com/media/doctrine/creation-god-makes
